Is it illegal to carry a 5-litre canister of petrol on a scooter?
The underseat storage is above the tank, and big enough to store quite a bit of extra petrol without affecting balance. But is it illegal or not?
A 5 litre petrol can is designed for emergency use not storage, the RAC the POLICE and ROSPA advice that you only ever carry these cans empty and only fill them for emergency use.
How far are you intending to go on the Scooter? my Motoroma ( RiP) used to do over 160 miles on a single tank which was enough for comfort reasons. However I obtained a second petrol tank from a 1980’s Suzuki scooter, this was metal and the exact size for fitting into the Helmet well (fitted better than my skid lid). I then used the vacuum operated fuel valve and Tee’d this into the existing fuel system, this doubled my fuel capacity and gave me a range of 300 miles (extra weight of fuel offset) meant i could get to cornwall on one bikeful of petrol. The idea was to do Lands End to John O groats but That never came off..
The Tank I used was a CS50 Scooter tank, infact I still have it… ready for my next scooter project.
